1. Select the Right Spot
Pothos grows best in bright, indirect light. Place your plant near a sunny window but out of direct sunlight, as too much sun can burn the leaves. Good light helps the vines grow faster and stay lush. If your space is darker, you can also use grow lights to give the plant an extra push.
2. Use a Support for Climbing
To create a wall of pothos, you need something for the vines to climb. A trellis fixed against the wall, a mesh grid, or even strong hooks with strings will work well. When given support, pothos naturally climbs upward instead of trailing down, which makes it easier to cover a wall beautifully.
3. Start with Healthy Cuttings
If you want faster growth, it helps to start with several cuttings planted in the same pot. Each cutting grows its own vine, and together they quickly fill up empty spaces. Choose cuttings that have at least two nodes, since these are the points where roots and new growth will develop.
4. Keep the Soil Moist but Not Wet
Water your pothos when the top two inches of soil feel dry. In good light, this usually means watering every one to two weeks. During winter, you will need to water less often.
A great thing about pothos is that it tells you when it’s thirsty. The leaves will start to droop slightly, and that’s the right time to water. Don’t wait until the leaves shrivel or dry out.
Be careful not to leave the plant sitting in soggy soil, as this can cause root rot over time.
5. Feed for Quick Growth
Feed your pothos with a balanced houseplant fertilizer during its growing season. A fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio works well. Always follow the instructions on the package, but most plants need feeding once or twice a month.

6. Train and Tie the Vines
As the plant grows, gently guide the vines toward the wall support. You can tie them with soft strings or clips until they attach on their own. Once trained, the vines will spread naturally and start covering the wall with very little help from you.
7. Prune for Thickness
For fuller growth of your pothos on the wall, trim the plant. You need to cut back long, thin stems, and the plant will produce new shoots. This trick will give you a dense, green appearance. Also, you can place the cutting back into the soil so it roots and adds even more vines to the wall.
8. Maintain Humidity
Since pothos is a tropical plant, it loves warm air and humidity. Mist the leaves now and then or use a humidifier if your home is very dry. A cozy environment will keep the leaves fresh and prevent the vines from drying out.
