Why Is My Oxalis Not Flowering? Check 7 common reasons and simple fixes to help your plant grow healthy and bring back those missing blooms.
You may have an wood sorrel or Oxalis that looks healthy, has plenty of leaves, and still gives you no flowers. That can be confusing, especially when you are doing everything you think the plant needs.
Before you start adding fertilizer or moving the pot around, take a closer look at what is actually happening. Your Oxalis may be getting too little light, staying wet for too long, or simply taking a break from flowering. Young plants can also need some time before they settle in.
Here are seven things worth checking.

1. It Is Not Getting Enough Light
Start with the window.
If your Oxalis is sitting well away from a bright window, it may not be getting enough light to flower. You can often see this in the way the plant grows. The stems may become longer, and the leaves may lean toward the light instead of growing more evenly.
Try moving the pot somewhere brighter. A spot with plenty of indirect light usually works well. If you have a window that gets mild morning sun, that can be useful too.
Just watch out for strong afternoon sun through glass. It can leave the leaves looking scorched.
Once you move your Oxalis, give it some time in the new spot. You do not need to keep shifting it around to find the perfect place.

2. It Is Going Through Its Natural Rest Period
Your Oxalis may simply be taking a break.
Some types naturally go dormant for a while. During this period, growth slows down and flowering stops. You may even see some of the leaves disappear.
Oxalis triangularis is a good example. When it goes dormant, it can look so bare that you may wonder if you have lost the plant.
If this is happening, do not try to wake it up with extra water or fertilizer. That will not make it flower.
Let it rest. Once you notice new shoots coming up again, you can start treating it as an actively growing plant and return to your normal routine.
A small indoor watering can makes it easier to give your Oxalis a controlled amount of water as it wakes up.
3. It Is Busy Making New Growth
Sometimes you are waiting for flowers while your plant is busy doing something else.
If your Oxalis has recently started growing again, you may notice lots of new leaves but no flowers yet. This is especially common with young plants that are still getting established.
Take a good look at the new growth. Are the leaves healthy? Are the stems firm? Is the plant continuing to put out new leaves?
If so, you may not have a problem to solve. Keep the plant in a suitable spot and avoid trying to push it into flowering.
Give it a chance to build up some growth first.
Remove dead or damaged leaves cleanly with a small pair of pruning scissors, especially when your Oxalis is coming out of dormancy.
4. The Soil Is Staying Too Wet
You may be watering your Oxalis with the best intentions, but too much moisture can cause trouble.
Oxalis likes moisture while it is growing, but the soil should not stay wet all the time. If you check the pot several days after watering and the mix is still soggy, wait before watering again.
Also check the bottom of the pot. You need drainage holes so extra water can escape.
Do not swing to the other extreme and leave the plant completely dry for long periods either. During active growth, you are aiming for soil that has some moisture without remaining waterlogged.
If you are unsure, stick your finger into the top layer before you water. It is often more useful than watering according to a fixed schedule.

5. You May Be Using Too Much Fertilizer
When you want flowers, it is easy to think more fertilizer will help. You may keep feeding because the plant is growing well but still not flowering.
That can backfire.
Too much fertilizer can encourage plenty of leafy growth without giving you the flowering you were hoping for. You end up with a very green Oxalis that still has no flowers.
If you have been feeding frequently, ease off. During active growth, use a regular houseplant fertilizer at the strength recommended on the label.
And if you have recently repotted the plant, check what kind of potting mix you used. Fresh mix may already contain enough nutrients for a while.
Give your Oxalis the nutrients it needs during its growing season with a gentle, well-balanced fertilizer.
6. Something Has Changed Around the Plant
Think about where your Oxalis was growing when it flowered last time.
Have you moved it since then? Has it been placed beside a heater or air conditioner? Maybe a nearby window is giving it less light now than it did a few months ago.
Small changes can matter, particularly if the plant was flowering regularly and then suddenly stopped.
You do not need to keep your Oxalis in a perfectly controlled room. Just try to give it a reasonably comfortable spot and leave it there.
If you keep moving the pot because you are worried about the lack of flowers, you can make it harder to work out what the plant actually prefers.
7. Your Oxalis Is Still Getting Established
If you planted your Oxalis recently, do not expect flowers straight away.
The bulbs or corms first need to produce roots and enough foliage. Until the plant has settled in and built up some growth, flowering may not be its priority.
You may be tempted to dig into the soil to see what is happening underneath. Try not to. Disturbing the bulbs and new roots will not make the plant establish any faster.
Instead, watch the part you can see. If new leaves are appearing and the plant looks healthy, keep caring for it normally.
Sometimes you simply need to let a newly planted Oxalis settle before you see its first flowers.
What If Your Oxalis Has Lots of Leaves but No Flowers?
If your Oxalis is covered in leaves but you cannot find a single flower, start by looking at its growing conditions.
How much light does it actually get? Is the soil drying a little between waterings, or does it remain wet? Have you been feeding it more often because you are trying to encourage flowers?
Also think about the timing. If the plant is young, has recently come out of dormancy, or has been moved, it may need a little longer.
Do not change everything on the same day. Move it to a brighter spot, change the fertilizer, repot it, and alter the watering routine all at once, and you will have no way of knowing which change made a difference.
Make one change, then watch the plant.
If you are repotting your Oxalis, choose a well-draining indoor potting mix that won’t hold excessive moisture around the tubers.
When Should Oxalis Flower?
There is no single flowering schedule that applies to every Oxalis. The type of Oxalis you grow, its growing conditions, and the time of year can all affect flowering.
Your indoor plant may also behave differently from one growing outside.
Instead of watching the calendar too closely, pay attention to what your plant is doing. If it is growing new leaves and generally looks healthy, that is a better sign than simply counting the days since the last flower.
If the plant is otherwise doing well, you may not need to intervene at all.
